Cooter (formally Pine)'s story...

Hi, my name is Cooter. I am a very sweet and friendly 4 yr old  30 lb Schipperke mix who was rescued off the streets in Taiwan with a terrible nose wound, leaving my face badly scarred. Because of my imperfection it was almost certain that I would not find have found anyone in Taiwan who would want to adopt me.  The shelter didn’t have room to keep me so they were going to have to release me back onto the streets of Taiwan, which would mean I would spend the rest of my life on the edge of starvation and face illness, injury and abuse on a daily basis. But the Taiwan shelter sent an appeal to all the rescues on the west coast of the U.S. and Canada and thankfully A Better Life responded. I was saved! When I arrived in Canada on Feb 25th my new rescuers were shocked to see I still had a hole in my nose.  After consulting with a surgeon, ABL was told that the hole could be fixed, but it would cost thousands of dollars – money ABL didnt have.

And then a miracle happened. The most compassionate and generous woman called to say she would pay for both my and Abba’s operations! Our rescue angel’s name is Cecilia and she made the single largest donation that A Better Life has ever received so that Abba and I could get the operations we needed to fix our deformities and lead normal lives. Once I recover I am going to be able to meet her so I can thank her personally.

I have recovered very well from my surgeries and am ready to move on to my forever home. My foster mom says I am just about the most polite little dog she has ever met. I sit without being asked and gently raise my paw if I want you to pet me. I have the cutest habit of putting my paw onto the backs of other dogs, as if I want them to pet me as well. I am a very calm, very quiet and very well mannered little guy. My foster mom says I am better behaved then her dogs who have never had to survive on the streets. I appreciate every kindness shown me. I seem very comforted by the presence of other dogs and I would love to have a home with another dog who would like to play with me. I LOVE meeting new dog friends on walks. I have some cloudiness in my right eye which my vet thinks was caused by the treatment I received in Taiwan so the vision in my right eye is limited. But it doesnt impact me in any way.  I am a sociable dog and love being around people, kids, cats and other dogs. But I am not the kind of dog who needs to be with you every minute. I am very content to be on my own as well. You couldn’t ask for a more low maintenance dog than me. All I want is a bit of affection, a soft bed, walks and meeting new dogs. I have no interest in chasing balls or playing with toys. I am very calm and relaxed inside the home even if I have only had a couple of short walks that day. But I am thrilled to go on longer hikes and join other dogs in play. I am so interested in meeting other dogs that my foster mom says it takes a long time before I can safely go off leash and then it needs to be in an area where there are no cars. Because when I see another dog I just have to go meet them. I am the perfect size as well. My only fear is getting into cars (it is probably an entirely new experience for me). But once I am picked up and put in the car I am perfectly behaved (as I always am).

I hope someone can find it in their heart to adopt me soon. My adoption fee is $350.
