Hailey's story...

Hi everyone. My name is Hailey. I am the most adorable and good natured 13 yr old chihuahua you will ever meet. This is in spite of the fact that I have been badly physically abused in my previous home. Before I ended up at a high kill California shelter, I was with a family where I had been kicked by someone in the home. At some point I had my jaw and a few ribs broken. My family never even bothered to take me to a vet to heal my broken body. So one of my ribs healed without being reset and it now sticks out a bit from my chest. It is fully healed now and doesnt hurt me at all, even when you touch it or hold me. But A Better Life had to have my jaw wired to realign it properly. The vet says I am in excellent health and that I am healing fast. Even the wire in my jaw will be coming out soon. I know it is hard to imagine how anyone to want to hurt such a tiny, sweet and super loving little dog like me. And in spite of being abused by humans, I am a very happy, loving and friendly little girl. I am however, not good around men – my abuser was likely a man – so I am seeking a female-only home.

My foster mom says I am the perfect little dog, quiet, calm, polite and very loving. She says that I always seem so happynow that I have settled in and know no one here is going to hurt me. I don’t need a lot of exercise so am perfect for a low activity home. Mostly I love to cuddle beside you or on your lap. Even though I LOVE people, I am not too clingy and won’t follow you everywhere in the house. I am content to rest by myself and am great left alone in the house or the car. Of course, once you get back home I am VERY excited to see you and I will jump around on my back legs in sheer joy at your return.

I don’t have an aggressive bone in my body and love all creatures. Even though I am great with children, my injuries and very small size make me unsuitable for a home with young children who may inadvertently handle me roughly. I am submissive with people and very polite and submissive with other dogs. I am very happy girl and always excited to meet new people and pretty soon I will consider you my new best friend. My adoption fee is only $200 because I am a senior, but because my vet bills have cost much more than that A Better Life would be pleased to acccept donations to help pay my vet bills. I hope you will help them. Without them I would likely have been euthanized without never having known kindness in my life. They will be happy to put your name in my bio as my sponsor. And you will have my undying gratitude and can even meet me if you like!
