Hi, I’m Bert, a 1-year-old lab mix. I was rescued from a high kill shelter in California – a kind volunteer saw me come in as she was standing at the desk. She saved my life, as returns are taken immediately to the euthanization room. It was my lucky day, and now I am looking for a new forever home in Canada. I am so full of joy, energy, life and loyalty! I like to watch TV snuggled up in a chair, and I love to sleep on the bed beside you or on my pillow at the end of the bed.
I can run like the wind and love it! I like to run in the fields and I’m absolutely tireless. I am obedient and affectionate. However, I don’t get along with other dogs. Because I was starved when I was found, food has always been an issue. I see other dogs as competition, whether or not they are around the food. I do have a doggie friend I like to run with, but we don’t live in the same household. I am a big jumper and would be great for agility – I can leap over a 5-foot fence.
I have been diagnosed with “Mega Esophagus” which is a genetic disorder that some dogs are born with. The esophagus does not
contract and take the food into the stomach…many dogs don’t live very long but I have done very well! As a result, I must be fed by hand, eating only soft food, standing at the counter or table so that gravity takes the food down to the stomach. He is obedient and affectionate.
I would be wonderful in a home with older children. I deserve a lifetime of love and affection, and would love to find a wonderful home. My adoption fee is $400.
