Chico's story...

Hi, my name is Chico. I’m a 11 yr old Chihuahua mix who has become homeless because my family just doesnt want me anymore. They were taking me to the SPCA when my my neighbor asked where we were going. When he found out he said “No way. I’ve watched over this dog for years now, even took him to my vet when you let his nails curl twice around and he deserves a nice family and lots of love”. So, because he loved me more than my own family did, he took me home with him. This rescuing angel bathed me right away.

Because my family never bothered to bathe me, I smelled very bad. And because I have a food allergy I have had a rash for years. My kindly neighbor even bought my family good food for dogs with allergies to ease my itchy skin, and it began to work. My rash and itchy skin went away. But when the food ran out my family went back to buying the cheapest food they could find so my rash and itchiness came back. Sadly, as much as my neighbor cares for me, he can’t keep me. So he asked A Better Life to give me a better life. That sounds pretty good to me. I am pretty easy to care for. All I need is the the right food, a soft bed, a kind heart and a warm lap.

I am a very loving boy and am good with other dogs and cats. Because I’ve been through so much, it is best if I go to a quiet home without kids where I’ll be the center of attention. I may not win any beauty contests but if you look inside at my heart you might see the beauty that lives there. All I want is someone who will love me as much as I love them. I hope this person finds me soon. My adoption fee is $100. My adoption fee is $100. If you decide to foster me, ABL will cover the cost of food and medical care for me.

Here is what my neighbor says about me:

“Poor Chico has been neglected and abused as you can tell by his skin condition. He has had a real rough life and now needs someone who will love him and spoil him in his remaining years. We took him to the park yesterday and he loved all the attention the kids were giving him, he was very willing to let people pet him. According to his previous owner, Chico gets along with little dogs but the owner wasn’t sure about big dogs as he has never been seen around them. This poor dog has really never been taken anywhere much. He has been kept largely isolated from the world yet he loves being out and socializing with new people. Chico will growl sometimes if you bother him when he is eating but it isn’t a mean growl. Chico has been miserable most of his life because of the skin condition that he has had for YEARS even though it is completely preventable. His owners never cared enough about him to help him. I hope this little guy finally gets a family he deserves.
